Oranges are highly cultivated all throughout the United States. However only about 20 percent of the U.S. crop is sold as whole fruit. The remainder is used for orange juice, extracts and preserves. It is used extensively for flavoring of foods, drinks and desserts. It is also widely used in the perfume and cleaning industries. From the orange tree we get 3 varieties of essential oil. The tips of the branches and leaves give us Petitgrain essential oil. The orange blossoms provide us with Neroli essential oil. And the oils from the outer peel gives us Sweet Orange essential oil. It is the Sweet Orange essential oil that we will be referring to in this article. Sweet Orange comes from the Citrus sinensis tree and is not to be confused with Bitter Orange which comes from the Citrus amara variety of tree. They have different healing properties. The essential oil is cold pressed from the outer peel of the orange. You can visibly see the pockets on the outside of the peel. This oil contains Vitamin A, B, and C, just like the fruit. Orange essential oil seems to spread sunshine. It is uplifting and refreshing. It also has a comforting and warming effect that helps to ease stress, tension, anxiety and depression. Orange oil is a great oil for aromatherapy beginners and it is safe to use even with children. You can use it on the skin, in the bath, simmered in a diffuser and it is the heart of many floral blends. Orange is a great oil to use for colds and the flu and it helps combat fever. Its antiseptic and antibacterial properties make it great for naturally eliminating and preventing the development of bacteria and other microbes. Orange has a settling effect on the stomach, and by stimulating bile, it aids the digestion of fats. It can help constipation and diarrhea as well. Orange is a tonic for the skin and great for oily skin, dry skin and dull complexions. It softens the epidermis and stimulates circulation making it great for rough and calloused skin and for people that find themselves easily chilled. Its regenerative properties help with the formation of collagen, which is vital for tissue repair and hair growth. Use as a massage oil for cellulite or make a facial splash to help acne prone skin or to combat wrinkles and aging skin. However, it can cause sun sensitivity, so do not expose your skin to the sun for 1 hour after use. Orange can help with water retention, obesity and heart palpitations. The Sweet Orange variety also increases bronchial secretion. Medicinal Properties Include: Antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, carminative, choleretic, digestive, diuretic, febrifuge, hypotensive, nervous sedative, digestive & lymphatic stimulant, tonic. Blends well with other citrus oils including Neroli and Lemon. And it also blends well with Black Pepper, Clary Sage, Ginger, Frankincense, Juniper, Lavender, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang and spice oils like Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Clove. Inhalation - Use in a diffuser for colds and flu, nervous tension and stress. Or when feeling bored and lacking energy. Great for children's bedrooms, playrooms, uplifting at parties and other get togethers. Caution: Can cause sun sensitivity. Do not use when being exposed directly to the sun. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Recipes Sensual Massage Oil Dishwashing Liquid Kitchen Sink Scrub Uplifting Diffuser Blend Quit Smoking Blend Oily Skin Toner When you're craving sweets turn to the sweet oils like Orange, Lemon and Bergamot. You can apply the balancing principals of Feng Shui to all areas of your life and it can be beneficial in creating harmony, wealth and happiness, as well as assisting you in overcoming health problems, creating opportunities and reducing the stress in your life. Despite its skeptics, Feng Shui is a scientifically proven system also known as Chinese Geomancy - not a superstition or religion. Feng Shui is based upon a set of theories and complex calculations derived from the Yi Jing. This includes an in-depth understanding and application of the theories of Yin and Yang, along with the balancing of the Five Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood) and taking into account the physical relationship between the natural environment and the magnetic field. In Chinese, "Feng" means wind. "Shui" means water. The properties of Feng Shui are: Light, Color, Sound, Living Objects and Life-affirming energy. Feng Shui teaches us that our spaces both reflect and affect our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. In Feng Shui terms, clutter is both a symptom and a cause of stuck energy. When our homes or workplace become cluttered and disordered, other aspects of our lives tend to feel uncomfortable as well. A cluttered space reflects a distracted and cluttered mind and makes it hard to focus and think clearly. Clutter saps your energy and erodes your spirit. It adds to your stress, slows you down and is draining to your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual strength. Getting rid of clutter is essential to good Feng Shui! Everything that surrounds you should be working for you in some way. When we are comfortable in our surroundings, we feel better and we work better. So if the things in your space are not supporting you and contributing to the quality of your life, it's time to do something about it! The hardest part is getting started. Just take it room by room. The kitchen is often called the "heart of the home". An untidy kitchen makes it hard to nurture yourself and others. How you care for your kitchen is a clue about whether you are giving enough attention to your nourishment and sources of abundance. The living room and dining room are spaces where you spend time with family and friends. Here you engage with the world while being at home. Look around your living room and dining room to see what they are saying about your relationships with the rest of the world. We use our bathroom space daily to prepare ourselves to meet the world. Clutter in the bathroom can indicate a lack of self worth and not enough attention to self that goes beyond physical needs. A clean, clutter free bathroom can become a tranquil sanctuary for rejuvenation and self care. It is very important to rid the adult bedrooms of clutter as they are meant for sleeping and intimacy. Clutter interferes with restful sleep. And if at all possible, your bed should be in the empowerment position. This position is when you lay in your bed, you can see the bedroom door. If this isn't possible, place a mirror on a wall that reflects the door when you are laying down. Time to clean out all those cluttered closets too. When we fill our closets with clutter, we stifle our ability to be intuitive and insightful. Closets represent things that are hidden or unknown. Cluttered closets can indicate problems that you may not be consciously aware of that are slowing down your progress in work, relationships and life in general. Keeping the closet door closed is not an effective solution. There are many other aspects involved in Feng Shui that we don't have room to cover here. Fortunately, there are many good books available on the subject as well as a lot of free information on the Internet. You might even want to hire a Fung Shui expert to come to your home or office to do a reading on your space. So what are you waiting for? It's Spring and now is the perfect time to clear out everything that is holding you back. Clearing out your clutter will allow prosperity in and improve the energy flow of any space. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Tea of the Month - Orange Spice *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Ordering Information *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Thank you for your interest in Aromatherapy and It's My Nature's Comfort Products.
