Skin Soothing Bath Tea - August 2005 Online Newsletter
2 tablespoons dried thyme
2 tablespoons dried calendula blossoms
2 tablespoon dried chamomile blooms
1 quart boiling water

Add the herbs to the boiling water and steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain the infusion and add to your bathwater.

1/2 cup Mugwort
1/2 cup Chamomile
1/2 cup Lavender
1/2 cup Hops
1/2 cup Spearmint
1/2 cup Rose Petals
Combine in glass container. Add 1/4 cup of blend to a muslin bag or large tea infuser. Hang from faucet and let water flow through. Great for relaxing, meditation, dream quests and nourishing the skin. Can be re-used or made ahead of time. Colorful and makes a great gift.

Steep 1 Tbsp Chamomile flowers in 1 quart of water that has been brought to a boil. Steep until cool. Drain herbs and add 8 drops Lavender essential oil to liquid.
Add to bath water.
Can store in refrigerator for up to 7 days.

Use 1 cup Lemon Balm to 1 quart boiled water. Steep until cool at least 20 minutes. Add to bath water and bathe for a minimum of 20 minutes.

2 cups Epsom salts
2 drops Fir Needle essential oil
2 drops Cedarwood essential oil
2 drops Eucalyptus essential oil

Mix well and store in an airtight container. Allow time to blend (10-14 days) before putting into decorative containers for gift giving. Use 1/4- 1/2 cup per bath.

2 tablespoons catnip
1 tablespoon castile soap
1/4 cup boiling water
Place boiling water in a cup and add catnip. Allow to steep for 10 minutes. Add castile soap to cup. Mix well. Apply entire portion to wet hair and lather well. Rinse with cool water.

1 bar Castile Soap, grated
2 ounces Glycerin

Make a simple infusion. Let steep until cool enough to pour over hair. Strain Lemon Balm from the water and pour over hair as your final rinse after shampooing. No need to wash out. Leaves your hair soft and smelling fresh and clean.

1 tablespoon Jojoba carrier oil
3 drops Rosemary

Mix the Jojoba and Rosemary in a small bowl (tiny condiment bowls work great for this). Wet your hair with warm water and then apply the conditioner. Let it set on your hair for 15-30 minutes. Then, wash your hair as normal. Jojoba and Rosemary are helpful for dry hair. The Rosemary is also helpful for eliminating dandruff.

Calendula Facial Cleanser - August 2005 Online Newsletter
4 tablespoons almond oil
2 tablespoons dried Calendula flowers
A few drops of rose water (optional)

Warm the oil in a bowl placed over a pan of hot water. Stir in the dried flowers and heat gently for about 30 minutes (over the pan). Remove the bowl and allow the oil to cool. Stir in the flower water at this point. Use as a cleanser on your face and neck.

10 drops Patchouli essential oil
3 Tbsp. Sweet Almond Oil
Mix together in small glass container. Add to affected areas 2-3 times a day.

6 drops Eucalyptus essential oil

Discourage the spread of colds in the home. Use this blend of Eucalyptus and Lemon

Infused Buttermilk Cleanser - July 2003 Online Newsletter
1/2 c Buttermilk
1 tbsp Chamomile flowers
1 tbsp Sweet Orange blossom
1 tbsp Elder flower
Simmer in a double boiler for 30 minutes. Do not bring to a boil. Cool for 2 hours then strain. Apply with cotton ball. Use tissue to wipe off. Follow with a skin tonic. Store in refrigerator up to 7 days.

Oily Skin Toner - April 2003 Online Newsletter
If your skin tends to be on the oily side try the following toner.
2 drops Geranium
4 drops Sweet Orange
5 drops Lavender
1 Tablespoon Witch Hazel
Mix all ingredients and add enough spring water to make 8 oz. Use after cleansing your face.

4 tablespoons Almond oil
2 tablespoons Calendula flowers
3 drops of Rose water

Warm the oil in a bowl placed over a saucepan of hot water. Stir in the dried flowers and continue to heat gently for 30 minutes. Remove from heat, allow to cool, and stir in the Rose water.

Provides blood circulation to the skin for a heathly glow. Great for troubled and acne prone skin.


Calendula Ointment- June 2001 Online Newsletter
1 lb. Coconut oil
2 good handfuls Calendula blossoms

Put oil and blossoms into a pot over very low heat for 30 minutes. Calendula should be crispy but not burnt. Filter into jars, and keep cool. Rub some on spider veins (twice a day), bruises, dry skin, cracked lips...

Make a double infusion for varicose veins (do this again with the same oil, adding the same amount of herbs). Spider veins should start showing visible improvement in about three weeks or so, and take about six months to clear up.

Soothing Strawberry Mask - July 2001 Online Newsletter
Strawberries are abundant this time of year and they are an excellent skin softening agent. They contain salicylic acid, which rids the skin of dead cells and allows the skin to absorb more moisture. Try this simple mask that will leave your face soft and glowing!

1/2 cup fresh Strawberries
2 tbsp. Plain Yogurt (with live cultures)
1 tbsp. Cornstarch
1 tsp. Honey
1/8 tsp. Lavender Essential Oil

Combine the above ingredients into a paste and apply to the face and neck. Relax for 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.

A mask of grated apple mixed with a little honey is an excellent remedy for pimples.

Cooling Eucalyptus Body Powder - July 2001 Online Newsletter
Sooth and cool yourself on a hot day with this easy to make body powder. Leaves your skin silky soft. And it's a great natural insect repellent.

1 cup Cornstarch
1 tsp. Arrowroot Powder
1/4 tsp. Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Mix all ingredients together and apply to body with a powder puff.


Protein Skin Tone - July 2001 Online Newsletter
Beat together 1 Tbsp milk, 1 tsp. honey and 1 egg. Apply beaten mixture to face and neck. Leave on as long as desired. Rinse off with warm water and follow with a splash of cold water.

Use dried Lemon Balm for a lightly astringent facial steam. Rub fresh leaves on the skin to treat cold sores, insect bites and for a natural mosquito repellent. Careful, can attract Bees.

Add an Oatstraw infusion to the bath for flaking itchy skin and other skin problems.

A Simple Face Scrub - May 2002 Online Newsletter
This is suitable for all skin types and very easy to prepare.
6 drops Lavender
2 Tablespoons Raw Honey
2 Tablespoons Brewers Yeast
Mix Lavender into Honey then stir in yeast until mixture is smooth.

Lavender oil can be rubbed onto the breasts to help tone and tighten the skin. Add 2 drops of the oil to 3 tablespoons of a base oil, such as Sweet Almond, and apply to breasts daily.

Facial Toner For All Skin Types - May 2002 Online Newsletter
Add 4 drops of Lavender essential oil to 1/2 cup water. Shake well before using. Apply to clean face with cotton ball.

For Sunburn Relief Add 10 drops of Lavender oil to 4 ounces of water. Store in a plastic spray bottle and spritz on sunburned skin as needed.

Face Rejuvenator: Mix 1/2 teaspoon Aloe Gel, 1 tablespoon crushed Lavender Blossoms,and 1/2 tablespoon distilled water. Apply to a clean face and leave on for thirty minutes, then wipe off with a washcloth. Follow with a light oil to retain moisture.

Kills germs, bacteria, fungi and viruses. Soak for 10 minutes in a glass of water and 10 drops Tea Tree Oil. Rinse before using.

Peppermint Mouthwash -December 2001 Online Newsletter
2 cups Distilled Water
1 1/2 tablespoons Baking Soda
15 drops Peppermint or Spearmint Essential Oil
1 Vitamin C tablet, crushed
1 teaspoon Aloe Vera Gel
2 drops Blue Food Coloring

Mix together all ingredients and stir well to blend. Pour into a clean glass container with a tight fitting lid. To use, shake well and rinse your mouth with 1 teaspoon of the mouthwash. Do not swallow. Shake well before each use to ensure the mix. You can use green food coloring to make green mouthwash, or you can omit the coloring altogether for a clear mouthwash.

Breath Freshener - July 2002 Online Newsletter
1 part Distilled Water
1 part 100 proof Vodka
1 drop Spearmint essential oil per teaspoon of liquid
Place ingredients in a small bottle or atomizer. Shake well.
Use one drop on your tongue. Excellent gargle to heal mouth sores
